NATS Las Vegas 2018

It was a sunny and hot Las Vegas Week beginning June 22nd. It felt great considering we had so much rain here on the East Coast this Spring.

There were so many exciting classes to attend and I’ll give you a run down on some of these. Alton White from the musical Lion King taught a Master Class with terrifically talented young singers. I took away from that class that your movements can never be too big, it’s Broadway. Johan Sundberg sat next to me before he taught one of his Voice Science Classes. I thought all of the Beatles were sitting next to me. However, I did speak to him and thank him for all he has done to improve the understanding of our vocal profession through his glottogram. The concert of Metropolitan Opera stars Stephanie Blythe and Christine Brewer was most professional and inspiring. This took place at the University of Nevada and since my friend Ingrid and I are of an older generation, we waited a long time for a cab. I am in the process of signing up with Uber. My last full day there was a day trip to the Grand Canyon and Ingrid (a voice teacher from Florida) and I were totally amazed by the beauty of this large wonder. Appcompaniment is a real find. The owner came from NY to describe how the catalogue is of thousands of opera and musical repertoire. Students can practice in any key, change the tempo and the piano recordings are by professional pianists and they sound like a real to life Bosendorfer. On-line voice lessons could be the next mountain I climb with an app that has a real-time platform.

Have a very merry, musical week.
